What we are is a hard-driving, straight-forward rock and roll band. We plug in and play our asses off, thriving on the energy of the crowd and getting even the most timid of souls to participate. Independent of booking agents or formal management, Agony Hill has averaged over 100 shows per year for the last three years, playing only weekends until recently.
Having constantly worked towards "whatever level is next", the band has independently released two CD''s. The first being a full-length release entitled A.B.M.R. in 2001, which due to demand is currently in reprint, and 2003''s Just Add Alcohol, the title song being a regional club favorite. Both releases have received regional airplay with the songs "Helicopter" and "M-T" from A.B.M.R. and "One Question" and "Just Add Alcohol" from the Just Add Alcohol EP. The self titled EP released in May 2005 is being shopped to bigger labels by producer Jeff DaBella (AutoPilot Off fame).
The question of musical style can be described as modern rock. With influences ranging from Rocket From the Crypt, to Rush, on to The Misfits, and even the big band era legend Louie Bellson, you won''t find a band more adept at changing gears to please a crowd. Where else are you gonna find a driving modern radio rock song followed by a swing version of AC/DC''s "Highway to Hell"??? We do it all and you won''t find it done any better anywhere else.
Eric Bleiler plays guitar and sings. He does ''em both a lot better than you. Although extremely talented, Eric''s strong point is humility. You won''t find anyone that gets the crowd involved in the show better than Eric does, but he still throws up before every show.
Joe Wakefield plays bass and sings backing vocals. He also plays guitar and drums and piano and violin and trumpet and tuba and harpsichord and cello and harmonica and... you get the picture. Joe''s the rounded musician of the bunch, but his hidden strongpoint is negotiation. The ladies all love Joe.
Richard Haberkern plays drums and sings backing vocals. He makes a four piece kit sound like at least a five piece kit and never drops a beat. One of the most anal retentive perfectionists you''ll ever meet, Richard will talk on end about physics and the virtue of hitting things as hard as you can for hours on end. Just don''t ask him about the DaVinci Code or you''ll never get him to shut up.
