Details:
Singer – songwriter INEZ was born and raised in Sto:lo Territory on the Skowkale First Nation near Chilliwack BC. She was born to a Sto:lo/Musqueam father and an Ojibway/Metis mother. Both sides of Inez’s family have strong musical roots, one in traditional Sto:lo singing and the other in Metis fiddling and dancing. Her contemporary R&B sound blends with her traditional influences to create her own unique sound. This accounts for why the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network’s (APTN) program, Beyond Words, featured Inez in an episode titled “Traditional and not so Traditional”.

Inez’s debut solo album “Singsoulgirl” is set to be released in December of 2008. Singsoulgirl is packed with powerhouse lyrics and fresh stories that illustrate Inez’s life influences, culture and musical gifts. The CD has a diversity of sound that blends Inez’s soulful vocals with beats that make you want to move. Singsoulgirl is sure to reach listeners across “Indian country” and beyond by catching listeners between genres and generations backed by a real image of a strong Aboriginal woman. The CD will be independently released and digitally distributed through CD Baby and iTunes.

Music is Inez’s soul and will always play a major role in her life. Inez got her start in music by playing the violin at the tender age of three and has memories of playing the fiddle alongside her Metis grandfather. In high school, jazz choir was where she first felt the sensation of performing solos and her talent only grew as she was surrounded by contemporary music and her ancestral Aboriginal music. As time progressed, Inez entered the University of British Columbia (UBC) where she received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. It was during her second year at UBC when she wrote her first song “Sto:lo Strong” which is a prime example of Inez expressive songwriting. Sto:lo Strong speaks of having strength while away from home and maintaining a Sto:lo Identity. The final words of the song “I don’t forget where I came from” speak volumes to the people, in a world full of pop culture and imposed identity.

In the past couple of years, Inez’s musical gifts have provided many rewarding moments and her career is both gaining momentum and consumers of her product. In 2006 Inez was featured on the National Television Musical Program ‘Beyond Words”. Inez recently received recognition as a National Aboriginal Role Model, by the National Aboriginal Health Council in Ottawa. While in Ottawa receiving her award Inez entered a talent contest in which she won the $10,000 first place cash award. For the competition, Inez performed her song “Breathe” which will be featured on her upcoming album.

According to Juno Nominee, Jason Burnstick, Inez is a “can’t miss artist.” Inez’s debut album “Singsoulgirl” will no doubt entertain her awaiting fans and captivate new audiences. Inez is currently working to finish her album in preparation for a late fall release date.
