Knowing where to begin is always the hardest part for me. With this CD it was more about just opening my soul and letting flow whatever would flow. I had about 20 new songs to choose from that were nothing more than lyrics and melody and a musical idea in my head.
I''d been doing it this way for years... well... ever since I started writing songs in high school. I''d been in the studio to record and I''d somehow never managed to release a CD. So above and beyond all else... I decided that this was the right time to follow through with this desire to make a CD.
I knew I needed help to make this happen so I told Don what I was planning to do and asked if he would be willing to help. He was enthusiastic from the start to the finish. I''ve been working with Don for almost 15 years and this was the first time we talked about making a CD. I told him I had songs coming faster than I could manage them and needed to know if he could take my simple musical ideas and arrange and sequence them for me. When you listen to the CD you''ll hear 9 songs all arranged by Don. He took the songs and did magic.
So this first CD, yes I plan to do more, is a very intimate look into my life over the last few years. A good friend of mine said that at times he felt like a voyeur while listening to the songs. Of course he knows the story better than most.
The CD is a tastefully written story of love lost, love found, and the real-life complications that tend to make such things emotionally and physically and psychologically... catastrophic.
There''s no need to go into gory details because the songs tell the story and they do so in a style that is reminiscent of 80''s pop rock. My friend says it''s full bore 80''s... It may be. I don''t know. It was my intention to make a CD that fit today''s adult contemporary feel and then fill it with rock guitar. So if you can imagine music you could turn down low and listen to over a nice dinner and yet can be put into a kickin'' stereo and cranked up till your ears bleed while you just rock, then you have a good feel for this CD.
The CD ''Whatever It Takes'' is a big accomplishment for me. I poured my heart and soul into it. I hope your heart and soul will be moved each time you listen.
