Ottawa’s staple sideman Matt Ouimet has just finished his first solo CD “Silently”.
“Silently” is a collection of songs that bypass genre with honesty. His open, heartfelt, and dream like lyrics coupled with sympathetic melodies make for memorable lullaby hooks. A country style, a pop arrangement, a jazz progression all are done to serve the emotion of the lyrics and melody, no gimmicks, just harmonic vehicles for honesty. His songs are skillfully crafted and complimented with advanced instrumentation, or bare bones simplicity.
On his recording “Silently” Matt plays all the instruments and sings all the parts in an organic sounding and feeling way. When you hear “Silently” it’s hard to remember it’s just one guy making all that music.
Born in Morden Manitoba in 1981 multi-instrumentalist Matt Ouimet’s family moved to Ottawa Ontario in 1988 where Matt eventually took up drums in grade 6 music class. He was (and still is) a quick study and was playing in bars by the age of 14. At 27 he’s a drumming force to be reckoned with. He is a chameleon of styles and not only is he a “drummer’s drummer” he’s more importantly a “ musician’s drummer” he knows his place in music, no matter what instrument you put in his hands!
Through the recent past Matt Ouimet has enjoyed playing and/or recording for Ottawa’s: the Super Awesome Club – Sarah Hallman – HiloTrons – Jehan Khoorshed – the Golden Seals – Trevor Finlay – Hyulp – Ana Miura – Steve Judd - Slo’ Tom - Eric Vieweg (the Withering Pines) – Hyulp – Male Nurse - and many others.
Matt also works producing and recording local acts and at Dave’s Drum Shop in Ottawa repairing, restoring, and building drums.
