Missouri Mule Music is proud to announce the release of the newest disc from Supe duJour. On the heels of his 1998 release, ''Makin'' a Living, Not a Killing'', which produced songs covered by Chet Atkins and Dr. Demento, ''Smartest Man in the World'' (MM0005) is a 12-song exploration into the unique songwriting style of the Artist formerly known as Michael Granda.
With his newest band, the Sheetrockers (featuring their ''drywall of sound''), Supe and the boys rollick with the straight forward style of a garage band, combined with the high level musicianship that characterizes their Nashville home.
With songs, ranging from the rollicking ''Nicolette'' (a tribute to long-time pal, Nicolette Larson, written on the evening he learned of her death) to the convivial "Born With a Beard (a tribute to facial hair), this is a compilation of 9 brand new songs and three ''real old songs that never got recorded properly''.
Joining the Sheetrockers are some of Nashville''s finest players, including Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson''s hamonica player), Bob Britt (Dixie Chicks guitar wizard), Ray Kennedy (award winnning producer - Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams), and NRBQ sax man Jim Hoke.
With such an eclectic musical cast, even the cover photography presents an interesting story. A self-portrait of Weldon King, who was staff photographer for Life magazine in the 40''s and 50''s, and the man responsible for the 3-D images used in Viewmasters, the photo of the ''Smartest Man in the World'' is a tribute to the man who Supe has recently befriended, and still resides in Springfield, Mo.
