MP3 Surf Guitar Villains - Return of Revenge

This is lo-fi retro Garage Surf punk psychodelic guitar band from the Great Northwest that grows on you -- like a fungus.

11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Surf Rock, ROCK: Classic Rock

Details:
The Surf Guitar Villains are a transplanted morthwest garage band consortium that just wanted to do fun, stylisticly diverse music that was not overly polished, and off the beaten track. We sound like a lot of different things -- original and raw were the operative directions we were looking to go.

The sound is decidedly low-fi, with some off the wall production work thrown in at Planet Bob Studios. Pub band veterans from Bob the Dog and the Island Trio from Portland provided heavily in the Return of Revenge project.

Return of Revenge is a sophmore project following the EP Maladjusted Universe. The SGV consortium wanted to cover a wide array of music rather than deliver a ''single sound product''.

About the songs on Return of Revenge:

1. Untro - This is a real movie soundtrack piece, for a ''B'' level monster movie, like "Return of the Suds Monster".

2. Sweet Jane (L. Reed) - We always wanted to do a simple cover of this ever since we heard Mott the Hoople do this.

3. Return of Revenge - The surf gods are torqued off, so the 6 string razors are unsheathed! This song follows the Mark Knopfler dictum "one can never have too may guitars in the mix". Think Hendrix meets Dick Dale meets Billy Gibbons.

4. Surfin'' The ''Cane - The intro went for the cheese factor - the rest is pure acid toned surf and guitar pyrotechnics. Ken Drottar flamed on this one.

5. On a Cheap Guitar - Home style cowboy tune stuck in the city.

6. Revenge(Slight Return) - Return to Return of Revenge, with under ground under mix poetry. Jimi would have a chuckle with this.

7. Strange Day - When your dog starts talking to you in "hund deutch", you are in deep yogurt.

8. Eclipse - Ken, Jerry and company came by to fill out a guitar instrumental done on a Hamer ... Eclipse, that is.

9. Mr. Mystery Man - Billiam''s ode to secret agent film silliness.

10. Human Torch - Grinding homage to comic heros -- my favorite, the Fantastic Four''s Human Torch, and passing the mantle to my kids.

11. Return of Revenge (long remix) - This was broken into two sections in album. Here I kept the piece intact, and brought out different elements ok Ken''s guitar psychosis.
This is intended for a DJ''s bathroom break, or a long stretch of roadway.

Review of Maladjusted Universe from Lindell Sound

I first noticed a strong influence of second and third harmonic distortions, coupled with a definite west coast grind. The craftsman jigsaw effects on the 5 string lead guitar were especially fitting for use in the 2 cord progression. On the production side I must say that the sound engineer really added that extra touch by overdubbing your vocals with a 50 horsepower 48" turboprop fan. Although I detected a slightly maladjusted level in the bass track it didn''t detract from the overall enjoyment I experienced when I realized I had come to the end of side one.
I must say that the writing style reminded me of George Harrison In his "My Sweet Lord" phase. You have had the same inspiration! Side 2 of your tape was merely a reminder of why there was only one side. I found the cover sleeve to be an eye catching display suitable for use as a fishing lure. All in all, a first effort worthy of the charge of reckless endangerment, or use of a deadly weapon.

I hope that this review will spare me from any implied or overt threats of any future deliveries of anymore acoustic shrapnel as it could thwart my recovery from lower duodenum distress.

Show Review from Durrell Jazz and Pop Vinyl World

Surf Guitar Villain`s Billiam Villian is arguably the greatest rock instrumentalist at the turn of this century. His blunt attack contrasts sharply with the meticulous virtuosity of an Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendrix of a generation before; SGV prefers an angry metal whine
of molten steel rather than polished chrome. His rough edges convey far more than his awesome dexterity. In a genre where computerized pyrotechnics seem the rule, SGV plays with a rawness transcending idiomatic formalities.
