Shady Groove was born out of William Paterson College located in Wayne, NJ in 1997, now William Paterson University. They cut their teeth playing college parties from upstate New York down to Maryland and also enjoyed some club dates at such places as the Wetlands Preserve and in NYC and traveling as far as the Middle East in Boston, MA. A couple of headlining shows at the Wetlands Preserve were fan favorites and a few live recordings showcasing the bands'' improvisational chemistry still do exist in certain circles.
The band consisted of Chris Soltis on lead guitar and vocals, his brother John on bass and vocals, Josh Sternberg on guitar and vocals, and Barry Karsh on drums and percussion. After Barry moved to California in the fall of 2003 the group dissolved.
