Details:
The SongDogs are a band from Berlin founded in 1996 and named after the Irish novel by Colum McCann. All members have devoted themselves to handmade music and have joined their different influences to their own mixture on the border-line between Folk, Rock and Alternative Country.

* Florian "the" Fritsch - vocals, guitars, harp, mandolin
* Sandra Grosser - guitars, accordion, banjo, ukulele, perc., vocals
* Marc Beyer - bass, upright bass, perc., backing vocals
* Jens Hetze - drums, perc., backing vocals

All members of the SongDogs have already gathered different experiences in other bands and musical styles of the most different sorts. Florian Fritsch, singer-songwriter of the SongDogs, is simultaneously working on his solo-program “the Fritsch Blues Project” and has already published two solo CDs.
Although there hadn''t been made any contact to the German Country scene until 2006, their CD-release "Hometown Queens & Bus Stops" has attracted attention even there and brought forward some very positive reviews in relevant Country magazines. Finally the SongDogs were one of four nominated bands for the German Country Music Promotion Award 2007.
Done the three gigs of the final-tour, the jury told "excellent Americana, but not Country enough for winning this Country-Music Award".

The Music
The sound of the SongDogs is characterized by the interplay of the different guitars taking turns in solos and rhythms, playing chords and slides as well as blues picking. They are the foundation for the intensive and powerful lead-vocals supported by the harmonic part-song of the background voices. The different moods of the English-speaking songs which are standing in the tradition of American singer songwriters are individually taken up by the solid bass and well-rounded to a harmonic piece of music. The imaginative and precise drums and percussion powerfully complete the sound of the SongDogs to a true and diversified whole.
Musical instruments like violin, mandolin, harp, banjo, accordion and ukulele show the rather tight relationship to the most different influences of North American Folk Music.

Translated Reviews:
https://www.tradebit.com, January 2007
"... It could have come from the seething Texan singer-songwriter scene and culture. But it doesn''t - it comes from Berlin. There - and in the meantime also beyond Berlin - the SongDogs became established in the last years and now present an album, which entirely shows their own handwriting. All 12 tracks are own songs, singing and sound showing flawless Roots Music. ... Country Music has always left room for such self-willed and well made music, for the national scene the SongDogs are an enrichment. ..."

Western Mail, November 2006
"... Their music lies between Americana, Folk, Rock and Alternative Country. The 12 recorded songs were written by the singer and multi-instrumentalist Florian Fritsch. The voice is sometimes rough, the sound is wonderfulyl dry, nothing is overproduced. ... The Songs have all together a Live a character, which brings this music still closer to the listener. Well, but not overproduced, a fresh formation presents itself with honest music. ..."

"... Whoever finds Bob Dylan, Dave Alvin, Johnny Dowd, etc. interesting and successful, feels at home with the SongDogs. ..."
