4 Covers is the newest release from acclaimed singer/songwriter Ari Shine. It
marks the first time Shine has released versions of material by other artists. The songs were recorded and mixed at home during an intense week and a half. The tracks run the gamut from a bluesy take on the Eurythmics 80s hit "Missionary Man" to a hushed, intimate version of Nick Cave''s "Into My Arms" featuring guest vocals from Canadian chanteuse, Adrienne Pierce. Also included are dreamy soft focus interpretations of "Waterloo Sunset", the nostalgic classic by the Kinks and Howard Jones synth pop hit "No One Is To Blame". All of the songs are filtered through Shine''s love of upfront vocals, lush harmonies and unique instrumentation including accordion and glockenspiel.
BIOGRAPHY
Singer/Songwriter Ari Shine hit the ground running with the 2006 release of "Age/Occupation", immediately earning comparisons from Village Voice and Time Out to a young Elvis Costello. He quickly caught the ear of Montreal based Bongo Beat Records who re-released his debut and first full length "A Force of One" (produced by Sparks/Beach Boys engineer Earle Mankey) in the UK and Canada. The latter racked up critical acclaim and made the final cut of Grammy nomination ballots.
Showcasing his increasingly rootsier style, "Everybody Wants Me (But I Want You)" from his follow up "Acoustic EP" has earned Gold Rotation on Canada''s Galaxie Radio. Quick on its heels comes "4 Covers", the first time Shine has released versions of material by other artists. The UK has been friendly as well. Rolling Stones mentor and producer Andrew Loog Oldham began to enthusiastically espouse Shine’s music on his Sirius show. He has performed on the BBC and at The Cavern Club, birthplace of the Beatles (even earning a mention in Spencer Leigh''s historical book about the club).
Armed with only his guitar, harmonica and songs, Shine is comfortable in front of all different types of audiences from folk to indie to punk. A favored support act, Ari has opened for Ian Hunter, Rhett Miller (Old 97s), Silversun Pickups, New Years Day, GOB, Kris Rowe (the Ataris), Yoav, Gilby Clarke, Redd Kross, Gin Blossoms, Peter Case, John Doe, Danny Wilde (the Rembrandts) and Liam Finn. TV viewers have heard him, too—Shine’s songs have been heard on Veronica Mars, Kyle XY, De Grassi: The Next Generation, and many other shows.
Signed to Bicycle Music Publishing (home of Dwight Yoakam and Marty Balin), Ari is also a sought after collaborator. As co-writer of Spanish track “Escondidos,” Shine also won Song of the Year honors in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. He is endorsed by Fender Guitars.
