ROCK: 60''s Rock, POP: Beatles-pop

Details:
Tammany Hall Machine is a band. This band plays instruments and sings songs and occasionally does so in the presence of other people at dark, smoky places called clubs and in air-conditioned rooms called recording studios. People cheer, tapes roll, drumsticks are broken, band goes home with 28 smelly, wadded-up dollar bills and its first big break: the phone number of this girl whose cousin is roommates with a guy who occasionally sleeps with the wife of a big-time record label exec who would really love the band. Fame and fortune are just around the corner.

In the meantime, Austin-based Tammany Hall Machine continues to crank out new tunes and develop their unique brand of 60''s-influenced indie rock. They''re often compared to The Beatles, Queen, and Jellyfish, but their sound is much more complicated than those bands imply. Yes, it''s melodic. Yes, it''s Beatlesque. But it also has a rowdiness, looseness, and wildness that is more reminiscent of bands like The Who, The Stooges, and The Pixies. Their music may be pretty, but it''s the loudest, craziest, most raucous pretty music you''ll ever hear. Somehow, even the soft songs rock.

Tammany Hall Machine released their self-titled, debut album to rave reviews in December 2004, and they have since been gaining a loyal following and earning a reputation for their energetic live shows. Fame and fortune may indeed be just around the corner.

Tammany Hall Machine is:

Geoff Dupree / guitar, lap steel, vocals
Jonathan Kollar / drums, percussion
Joel Mullins / vocals, piano, guitar
Mick Southerland / bass, vocals
Nick Warrenchuck / trombone, keyboard
