Its with those thoughts in mind that Diving Blind came into being. Nathan Cochran, who has been a member of the group MercyMe since 1997, had the ideas in mind, and passion for Diving Blind since he was in his teens.
After spending over a decade traveling with MercyMe, Nathan finally thought it was time to make some of this passion a reality. "I feel like I have started this 100 times," says Nathan. "I have literally recorded full records of songs that never saw the light of day. And I am still not sure what is different now other than it seems God brought everything I have been dreaming about into something tangible."
That''s where this new adventure begins. New friendships leading to new places.
While living in Dallas, Nathan met Jeremy Jaqua who was working at Guitar Center. Through nothing more than the purchase of a pair of kids drum sticks, Nathan and Jeremy began discussing what would become the first venture into making Diving Blind a reality. "I basically asked Jeremy to play on a demo I was working on. It was really just an excuse to try him out for the band." Nathan said. "The fact that we are passionate about making music for the same reasons has made us great friends."
During this very long demo process Nathan was still touring and while out an acquaintance named Preston Martinez was playing bass for one of the support acts opening for MercyMe. "I had met Preston before while he was touring with the Afters. I knew he was a great bass player and the more we talked I could tell that he was very passionate about making great music. He wants everything to be the very best it can be, which is great for me when I tend to settle a little to quickly."
So with these new friendships in place it was time to get creative. The guys spent two years playing together, writing and recording what would eventually turn into the first Diving Blind EP. And the results are just what the guys wanted.
"I know that this EP is not perfect," says Nathan. "But we were trusting God that he would take what little we had to offer and make something big out of it. This is just the beginning. We know this isn''t complete and we don''t intend on stopping here."
"So if you give us a listen, know that what you hear is honest. We are diving into the unknown knowing only that God sees ahead when we cannot."
