Details:
Mesa/Tempe, AZ -based quartet, the Dorsets formed in mid-2005 as a British Invasion-inspired house band at a posh bar in Fountain Hills, AZ. Singer/guitarists Adam Melia and Chad Bowman, and drummer Matt Cox all met at Mesa Community College were they shared classes during the spring of 2005. After several months out in Fountain Hills, the Dorsets ventured out into the music scenes of Tempe and Phoenix, playing a hand full of original songs. In 2007, they released, locally, their first LP We Can Do No Wrong. The album saw the Dorsets still holding true to their British Invasion-style roots. The Phoenix New Times reviewed it as a “refreshing trip back to the no-nonsense, straight-ahead pop-rock style of the mid-''60s. Rather than just ape the sound, The Dorsets seem to embody the wide-eyed, optimistic spirit of the times, as expressed in the album title." That summer, the Dorsets embarked on their first tour: an eleven city, Southwestern State tour. This resulted in an opportunity to open for the 1970s pop/rock band, Firefall, in Salida, CO’s Fall Mountain Music Festival later that fall. The Dorsets have continued to play throughout the valley for the last year and a half.

In late 2007, upon returning from tour, the band was given the opportunity to start another project when a local studio owner and composer, Jason Barney, showed interest in helping the band move forward. They started work on the new effort at Jason Barney’s Talmage Groove Cellar Studios in Gilbert. Barney brought in Scott E. Nowak, a top local engineer, for production guidance and engineering. What started out to be a summer recording project, turned into a year-long endeavor that saw the band deciding on a six-song EP, Groove. Unlike We Can Do No Wrong, Groove expands the Dorsets’ sound past just 60s Brit-pop. It is pure, funky Rock and Roll. The EP was recorded through the better half of 2008, and is due out the end of January.

Most recently, after seeing several bass players come and go throughout the three years, the band finally looks as though they’ve found the missing link. Paul Garns recently hopped on board as the newest Dorset.
