From the age of 6, I have always taken a great interest in music. My family took me to Christian concerts and the sight and sound of the drums created an insatiable hunger to play music. From there on out everything that I did was to aspire to become a musician. After playing drums for 3 years, I wanted to take upon a new challenge - the bass guitar. Once I discovered I had the ability to play the bass, I started playing at church shindigs and conventions. Feeling compelled to move forward and satisfy my hunger to play music - the 6-string was next. So by the age of 15, I was a full-fledged guitar player. My greatest influences at the time were Eddie Van Halen and Slash. Playing at Camp Jam at 16, I was able to sharpen my skills. Shortly after the camp I received some disturbing news. My heart valve was in need of repair, so I had to receive my fourth open heart surgery- the worst one yet. . . . . It was hard to go on. . . . . I felt not only pain but desolation and abandonment. . . . . A serious case of the blues. . . . . That’s when I found that the only music that could soothe the pain was the blues. As time went on, my surgery and scars finally healed, leaving me with the ambition to play the blues. A friend got me to a blues jam to get blues educated. . . . . Shaking in my boots, I got onstage and was told “Hey boy, key of C”. . . . . I’m playing along and then was told, “Take a solo,” so then I’m soloing and the crowd’s digging it. . . . From that point on, it was the blues for sure.
