ABOUT THE ALBUM
The name of this album is not simply a clever pun on the time signatures of the music within, but rather a direct statement of the amount of time it took to complete. (You''ll have to read the liner notes to find out just how long.) While this may be a detriment to many musicians, it gave this artist an opportunity to explore multiple styles in a single compilation. The album presents a rich tapestry of sounds and styles while maintaining a cohesive feel throughout. Each song on Its About Time is written with a particular focus, intended to evoke specific emotions and moods, the most obvious example being the various sections of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, whose names are specifically addressed through music. The varying instrumentation, time signatures, chord progressions, and tonalities provide a rich landscape that is ripe for exploration.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
John Marciante was born into a musical family, learning early on to play several instruments. Through the years, he consumed a steady diet of classical, improvisational jazz, and progressive rock music. Classical music provided a large number of instruments working collectively to expose and weave themes together. Improvisational jazz offered the opportunity to create melodies on the fly. Progressive rock combined the energy of rock music with the musical complexity of jazz or the great classical composers, with varying time signatures, unexpected chromatic progressions, musical interest for every instrument, and songs that are crafted rather than simply written. These foundations can be found on all of John Marciante''s albums.
