Bio for Terri Jo....
Terri Jo, a Nebraska singer/songwriter, has been performing professionally for more than thirty years. her music has taken her to performances across the country including festivals, state fairs, and renowned concert events. She released her first CD of original songs, Legend of Strawberry Moon, in 1996. In 1999, one of Terri Jo''s songs was chosen to be on a compilation CD distributed out of Maryland called, North American Songwriters. Terri Jo was nominated for the 98'', 99'', and 2000 KZUM Public Radio Folk Artist of the Year award and her trio was nominated for Jazz Artists of the Year in 1999. She released her second CD, Stories Around Me on the Tremulant Records label in Novemeber of 1999. Terri Jo also sings in the popular women''s trio, Baby Needs Shoes, which has been touring since their 1999 release of their self titles debut CD and is on the Nebraska Arts Council touring roster.
Terri Jo was born in the small farming community of Venango, Nebraska where she sang for audiences with her sisters from the age of five. Their first recording was made in Denver, Colorado when Terri Jo was 14 years old. She went on to study music at Kearney State College and the University of Nebraska. Terri Jo spent many years as lead singer in various rock, country, dance, & new age bands as well as playing flute, guitar, piano, & banjo.
Terri Jo has now turned her focus to folk music and songwriting. Her second solo release, Stories Around Me, was featured on the national radio program, River City Folk. One of the songs from her latest album was chosen to be on a holiday program produced for NPR stations across the United States and hosted by legend, Judy Collins. Terri Jo''s song "While I Drive" from her first CD was chosen to be on the NPR show Car Talk in July 2000.
Terri Jo has been a guest on several radio programs in the midwest and has been asked to be the opening artist for performers such as Christine Lavin and Diane Ziegler. Artists such as legend, Peggy Seeger have asked Terri Jo to sing with them in concert. She has been a winner in the new songs competition at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas and has been invited to appear on the Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour which airs in nearly 200 cities in the USA plus many other countries.
In addition to her busy performance schedule, Terri Jo coordinates a songwriters series at a coffee house in Lincoln, NE, teaches private guitar & piano lessons and writes the "Women in Folk" column for the North American Folk Alliance newsletter.
