Brett Duffy, Andy Hutchinson, Mark Poseler, and Matt Gruenwald have changed the lives of many through the art of rock. Four great story-tellers, four great performers, four great musicians, and most of all, four great men. Their story must be told, it must be understood if one is to understand proper rock.
Big wailing vocals, iced over thick velvety-distorted guitars held together by a heart pounding rhythm section. Songs that are so incredibly meaningful and profound, they leave the listener worshipping the members every live shows that are considered by fans and critics as a religious experience.
Many bands are confident in their music. Some bands with the ability to rock live. Only Bancroft can back it up in all aspects. From songwriting, arrangements, lyrical meaning, live performance, and recording/producing their own albums. They are the real deal.
After the amazing success of 2005’s, “The Melophobic Solution,” Bancroft had proved themselves as the greatest rock group to come out of Ohio. They had airtime on over 200 radio stations nationwide, toured the Midwest, and were featured at SXSW. Life was good to many once again, but the rock gods wanted more out of the men. Unfortunately, former bass player Dave Nemet had given his all to Bancroft and had to get out or possible explode from rocking too hard. The rock gods permitted his honorable discharge. Thankfully, they allowed for a reincarnation and Gruenwald stepped in.
In early 2007, Bancroft was ordered to work with a producer, Duane Lundy. Their egos had to be humbled and take a smarter approach to the chaos of their rock. Lundy delivered and Bancroft recorded their official EP in a mere weekend. Actually, only about 8 minutes a day were needed. The rest of the time was spent feeding the homeless and providing medical and dental service to those in need.
Unofficially dubbed the, “Smart Rock, with Balls” sessions, the band took what they had recorded with “The Melophobic Solution” and made it deeper, smarter, and crazier. The sound was bliss. Described as better than sex by female listeners.
The band continued their journey of rock through 2007 selling out shows, getting national airtime, and bringing joy and happiness to many. However, the rock gods needed sacrifice. Bancroft had met all of their rock obligations except the most meaningful and important….giving the rock back to the gods. Bancroft itself had to end. It was its destiny. It was tough, but the band agreed to call it a day and on 10/6/07 the band rocked for one last time in front of thousands and sent the rock back to the gods.
That was Bancroft. Some of the story was true. Well, most of it is true in some form with some ridiculous exaggeration. But if you’ve read this far then I’m hoping you were entertained and will listen to and spread the Gospel of Bancroft to your friends and family. They were great in their own right and had a taste of the rock and roll dream.
