Some extremely damaged Cramps-inspired madness here. Five savage punkabilly anthems that scrape the underbelly of humanity (and, apparently, their studio''s volume control!) with a beneficial flick of the guitar pick to Social Distortion''s hardcore ram-ifications. Every note on this thing sounds like an M-80 exploding in your lobes, as few bands ever succeed in capturing that intensity. A good sign.
ROCK N ROLL PURGATORY REVIEW:
This is the first release on the new Tuna Forsushi Records, and is a 5 song EP by a band formed of punk rock veterans currently residing in Florida. They play punk rock''n''roll dosed up on surf and garage, and that thankfully doesn''t sound sterile like it was recorded in some state-of-the-art wonder studio. The singer and style actually reminds me a bit of old Fear. Choice cuts are "Surfin'' Uranus" and "Whatever You Want." Not bad stuff. - BL

Quit your job, slap some faces, play this album until it breaks, and then consume excessively at your fullest moment. Now, since you''ve got time because your record is broke, your full, and your fingers tips have turned black from the want ads, please close your eyes for eleven minutes and five seconds to revive a concept of what was sucked from the ground in New York City back when a precious baby named "punk rock" was given life. Short lived and sadden now, living lowly, having been screwed out of it''s "teenage" years by other models that just didn''t get its'' attitude, and found necessary to produce the phallic clone. Emulating each other, shunning the music inside the gift, furthering onto nothing more than a product of influence. Minus the originality!
The Terrornauts reek of appreciation for their influences in a way that bands should practice. It''s those evasive late fifties, early sixties rockabilly guitar riffs found in their breaks between playing the punk riffs that makes the temerity forming this genre. From the first track (Psyche-Center Blues) drummer John Poblick exudes excellence in timing, and rhythm, bringing forth his influences, however finding his own true sound that is effectively similar, and viable throughout. Ray Vega, vocalist/guitarist incorporates his unbound sound into this band from influences like Black Flag, Little Richard, or The Misfits. Though these influences are pervasive, it''s very clear this has fused them into who he is as a musician, with the passion that''s put forth in the music climbing out of your stereo.
This blend of rockabilly and punk (punkabilly?) has turned me into a fan wanting more, eradicating a sound not like the noisome FM pop radio garbage. If you should happen across this disc- close your eyes to listen, when that eleven minutes and five seconds has played through, you''ll dig it. This is like something that''s escaped the impetuous punk vault. There really are great indie bands that carry this authentic quality in their music, and you folks in Tampa have a nice hand full of them- it''s a subsist for a good original sound. There''s something for everybody in your town, you''re very fortunate to have the option of good bands like this.
