The ANIX, a five-piece pop band from the Inland Empire of Southern California, has an undeniable appeal with their breakthrough sound critics are calling "Nu-Wave". Considered a blend of poppy guitar-based alternative rock, laden with layers of thick retro keyboard accents, completed with a mix of acoustic and punishing electronic dance beats.
The ANIX incorporates the distinctive, colorful qualities of 80s music into an awesome stage presence inspired by bands from then and now. The five members, Brandon Smith on vocals and guitar, Bryan Lareau on bass and backing vocals, Oscar Gutierrez on drums, Chris Yarber on synths, and Nik Lawhorn on guitar, chose to tune their instruments to operate on different frequencies, in order to intensify distortion and widen their range, as well as, utilize a series of processors found only in the worlds top studios and super star acts. The desire to go against the grain of Top 40 radio and pioneer an original sound, was born.
What separates The Anix from their peers is their immense presence live and recorded. In the short time that The Anix has been around, their local shows have managed to pack prestigious legendary venues in LA. Like The Whisky, The Key Club, and The Roxy. Their local fans established a rabid Internet audience, which formed a devoted international street team known as "The Agency." This panel of Anix experts has become an incredibly successful promotional engine. The Anix released their latest album,'' Play Dance Repeat'' in April 2005 to a packed house at the EL Rey Theatre in LA.. A remixed song with Gwen Stefani''s vocals called ''This Game Is Serious'' and their single ''Dangerous'', have been receiving subsequent airplay across North America.
