The Story:
The majority of recent chart topping hip-hop has found itself coming from unexpected areas of the country. Artists like Nelly (8x Platinum+) & Eminem(6x Platinum+) have emerged from cities and regions that were not considered commercially viable. In a clock-like manner, the hands of time and success are making their way back to the Midwest with all hands(and ears) pointing to Minneapolis. At the head of the pack are The Children Of Righteous Elevation. Or, The C.O.R.E. as they are known to their growing legion of loyal fans. Along with the hands of time, the next generation of musical pioneers from Minneapolis has arrived. And they are ready. With an EP under their belt and the live performance circuit comfortably locked down, they have been afforded ample time to record a catalog of music, professionally recorded, mixed, and mastered at Flyte Tyme Studios by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis'' engineer, Xavier Smith and 3rd Eye Entertainment''s producer/owner Reggie Henderson.
The C.O.R.E. began their musical journey during the summer of 1998. Brought together by friendship and values outside of music, their bond was solidified by a shared dream to bring their music to the world. With captivating styles and substantial lyrical content, they quickly generated a strong buzz in the local hip-hop community. With the pressure of a local buzz, The C.O.R.E. surprised everyone with an uncanny work ethic and unrivaled dedication to their craft. Never ones to waste an opportunity, they sought professional management, introduced highly entertaining stage shows, performed at the best venues in Minneapolis, and began to build a rather large following. Soon followed by opportunities to open for major label artists including LL Cool J, Mos Def, Black Rob, and Mystic, were performances in Toronto for Kevin Garnett''s O.B.F. Clothing line launch, the State Fair of Minnesota (2001 & 2002) for crowds by the thousands also nominated for a MMA award 2002 and requests by the capital city of St. Paul to entertain live on New Years Eve 2002.
As a highly acclaimed poet, spoken word artist and award winning Slam Champion, intel Toki makes up one very powerful half of the duo. Recognition for his work by Amistad author Alexs Pate, is a testament to the weight of his written material. Full of insightful concepts that force the listener to turn his back on the world surrounding them and direct the focus to the internal, he will ask that you merely assume responsibility for that which you control and at least attempt to join in on changing our surroundings.
