The songwriting talents of Matthew Woolf & James Hender (ex-Weekenders) combine to form an intelligent, sophisto pop/rock fusion with Wurlitzer, Harrison-esque guitars, prominent harmonies & progressive drumming. Newly formed London, UK quartet. Our dear friend Tim Plester (actor/award-winning writer) of the 118 advert and Happiness fame described us as "Supergrass meets Supertramp with their own distinctive sound, which makes them double-Super in my book!" Organic pop/rock at it''s finest with no artificial additives.
Formed in the early part of 2002 by long-standing friends/musical collaborators - Matthew Woolf (keyboards/vocals) & James Hender (guitar/vocals). We wrote a bunch of songs, recruited other friend Andrew Booker (drums/backing vocals/technical genius and founder member of Pulse Engine:- https://www.tradebit.com ) and Michael Captain (bassist extraordinaire) via infamous "loot" ad, honed our set by playing some London club gigs.
We''ve recorded our 6 most pop-tastic tunes in Matthew''s back room (Woolfgang Studios). Currently promoting/selling resultant promo-EP CD, scouring/touting for musicbiz interest etc. Still unsigned, so form an orderly queue please!
The Fugitives are a multi-influenced band on the run from current musical conventions. We wanna build a bridge between having as much FUN as we can, & doin'' some SERIOUS playing, writing & recording (man!) Ya dig?
This CD was recorded in my back room at Golders Green, North/West London on a Yamaha AW4416 16-track hard-disk recorder.
We''re Currently writing and recording our new CD which will hopefully be out later in the year.
TRIVIA....Lead vocalist, Matthew Woolf is also a close friend of AARON BARSCHAK - the notorious Windsor castle gate-crasher of Prince William''s 21st birthday party. Aaron introduced us at Moriartys, North London, doing his Ali G impression, and more recently as himself at our gig at The Garage....Matthew is related to David Helfgott....The Steinway grand-piano featured on this CD celebrates it''s 100th birthday this year and used to belong to Rachmaninov. It is now resident in the Woolf family home....

JEEZ THIS SONG IS LONG
Nice long ballad, I usually don''t like pieces this long but this works. I like it, has a nice classic feel to it, but i don''t think it will win over many fans in the pop/rock audience. It''s definitely different in a good way. I really liked the vocals and the harmonies. Instrumentation was good, drumming nice and subtle. The melody was pleasant and very mature. Outro was good as well, I can''t believe I listened to this the whole way through without getting pissed. Nice.

THE PIANO MAN SINGS
This song reminds me a lot of billy Joel and Elton John. Its got a real brit-pop feel.

CATCHY TUNE
There is a bit of Queen there; a mild touch. The vocals clear and understood. The chord structure is nice, a good choice of major chords. Nice synth. I think you did quite good here with alot of feelings and emotions put in to the arrangement. Nice pick up for a conclusion. It gives you a grand finale with a good touch of keyboard. "Watch Your Time". Great!!

DEJA-VU
I have a feeling I''ve heard this band earlier for a previous review. The backing vocals are great, really doing the job. The chord structure is nothing special, but it works fine. I think the backing vocals and the bass are the strongest thing in this track. No, I''ve reviewed this track before... I know I Have... I said nice theromony sound in the instrmental break... And I''m guessing the outro is going to be the same. Yup jamie and the magic torch.

THERE''S A LIGHT....
How very Rocky Horror sounding! The vocal is not edgy or rock enough for my taste - sounds too Broadway pretty, but I like the interesting melody and the changes remind me of old Elton John, which is always good. Arrangement and production are full and well done.

SOME LENNON ANYONE?
The very begining of your intro has the feel of the Beatles song "Little Piggies" Then your wonderful Lennon sounding voice came in. Your lyric is captivating. your chord structure is refreshing and your melody has a beautiful melancholy feel to it. your verse moves nicely into the chorus, and although there isn''t much contrast between the verse and the chorus it still works because of the mood of your song. Perhaps the only critisism I have is that you take a little long to get to the chorus and at 6:26 your song feels long, I would try making a shorter version of the song. This song is definitely Beatles influenced even in your outro. This song is great for an album/extended version cut. Overall I enjoyed your voice and lyric quite alot. Nice song.

Notes: Cool organ sound on intro. Insane vocals. Sounds like John Lennon through a fan. Mix is good. Sounds like a 60s vinyl which is pretty awesome. I dig it on the whole though. Sounds like theater-rock. Write a musical!! Good job.

HUMM... A DIFFERENT LOOK AT MUSIC
This is a good song. I don''t know if it should be in rock/pop due to the beginning, but nicely done. I think it should have been rocked up sooner. Chord structure is alright, but I don''t know too much about it to be a good critic. The break fits the mood very well. The outro was a big suprize I wish it came sooner as said before.

FAR TOO LONG
This is obviously a very mature songwriter, talented, musical, and very strong with arrangement. I really enjoyed the additional rhythmical structures in the outro and the soaring vocals. It is a really solid song, but too long.

WOW!!!!!
Wow!!! Procol Harum collide with the Kinks and produce a wonderful offspring. This is a very refreshing change from the bullmake you are sometimes subjected to when you do reviews. A well-written song with a somewhat familiar structure. The instrumentation is good and you''ve got a great arrangement. Interesting lyrics and a vocalist that makes them work just right with the music. Well written. Well executed.

SWIRL OF STYLES
The somewhat off-key and awkward sounding lead vox are a strange and intriguing blend with the pretty piano. Instrumental break is very hypnotic, however the end is a bit busy - keep it simple through the last note. Chord structure works well and is pleasant. Outro is a welcome, uplifting change and catchy. By the end of this song, I REALLY like it. It grew on me like a 5th grade crush.

NICE ORGANS
I liked the organ intro. the chord structure seemed nice, very smooth, it flowed nicely. The instrumental break was awesome, I loved the mood of the song almost like some sorta lullaby. The outro was pretty good, weird how the song picked up at the end but kool none the less. Very original.
