Details:
For several years, Theo Eastwind has been an icon on New York subway platforms as a Music Under New York (MUNY) performer. The hole worn through the body of his two-year old acoustic guitar is a tangible reminder of Theo''s commitment to his music. So far in 2004, The New York Post credited Theo Eastwind with title of "Big Apple Icon", https://www.tradebit.com included him in a month-long subway musician segment, and FOX-5NY viewers voted him "Subway Idol". Theo is currently recording a fourth album, The Story of The "O", due for release in 2005.

Theo Eastwind has played underdog in his story of survival that is quickly shaping into the American Dream. Theo was born in Austria and musically influenced by his father, a classical composer. With some pocket money, an acoustic guitar, and the promise of employment as a pastry chef in a new restaurant, he relocated to New York City in 1995. Upon his arrival, it was apparent the business would never open so Theo took his guitar to the subway. Quickly realizing his ability at that point was inadequate to pay the bills, he began practicing and playing incessantly in order to survive.

In 1998, Theo utilized a home studio system to capture his original material on a first album, Work In Progress . The following year he had amassed enough new material to record a second album, Oh La La Li..., which he dedicated to one of his inspirations, Nick Drake. His music and albums drew enough attention in the Subway that a professional recording option surfaced. In 2000, Theo wasted no time to take advantage of that opportunity and recorded a professionally produced, studio album, One.

Theo Eastwind blends acoustic and electric guitar styles in his music with influence from Jeff Buckley, David Gray, and Sting. Many of his songs are portraits of people seemingly familiar. "Annabelle", laced with nursery rhyme lyrics, carries the free-flow feel and emotion of teenage love. "High" evokes empathy for a girl imparting meaning to a symbolic marble before her actions lead to its demise. Other tracks focus more on dealing with life''s challenges. Inspiring listeners to contemplate the brevity of existence, "Rite of Passage" has become Theo''s signature song from his third album. As the name implies, the powerful vocals in "Fire Drill" echo the unexpected chaos of daily events.

Theo''s next and fourth album release, The Story of The "O", is due out in early 2005. Current live performances blend in much of the new material and have created anticipation among fans for its completion. In the meantime, Theo Eastwind followers enjoy a combination of his daily subway performances and street-level gigs along with many favorite tracks from his first three albums.
