The founders of Thing One, Joey Palestina and Spencer Miles, have known each other since they were 7 and 8 years old. Back then, they spent most of the time playing outlandish games, some that they created, and making movies without scripts or cameras. In 2002, at the ages of 21 and 22, they decided for the first time to put together something musically...two years later it has grown into a band...Thing One. Their first EP, Miles From the Road, combines hip-hop grooves, poetic stories, jazz harmonies, soulful melodies, and many other strange things. Most importantly, it is music that you can bob your head to and easily enjoy. On the recording, twelve musicians and singers can be heard. The live group, which consists of five members, plays all over the NYC/NJ area. They have just been selected to play the Sounds of the City festival this summer at NJPAC. Out of hundreds of applicants, Thing One was one of 30 bands picked to play. Check the website for more details. Be on the lookout for a full length album in the near future!
