The Indies Volume 2 is the second collection of eclectic original material by Sally Cooper. Featuring home recordings, internet collaborations and remixes.
Boldy traversing the Folk, Pop, Jazz, Electronic, and Ambient genres.
Sally Cooper once again captures the spirit of the independent music artist very comprehensively on this cd. The diversity of the material flies in the face of prepackaged major label branding and “product development” that tends to strangle the creative freedom of many a commercial artist.
The Indies Volume 2 reflects a maturity and confidence in regards to Sally’s vocal stylings, and also in her personal choice of expression, which was by and large completely unhampered by a pressure to confirm to a commercially viable model. This cd is bound to drive the genre police nuts, in that she displays an apparent disregard for continuity of style throughout the tracklist. However, it is free of fillers.
Sally Cooper has been a professional lounge singer for most of her adult life, and relates to a variety of genres effortlessly. This is definitely reflected on this cd, not only in her vocal stylings, but also in her approach towards songwriting. Truly a diverse artist, for people who simply appreciate a great singer.
Substance takes an almighty rein in the battle over style. And there is an real artistic truthfulness expressed in this album, as Sally has an genuine ear and appreciation for a broad palette of genres. Incomprehensible to many as this may seem, she is truly the consummate musician, the chameleon. Anyone who tries to categorize her into one music genre can go and knock themselves out trying but they wont be getting anywhere with it. “Two Sides” produced by Rock Wilk of Samah productions in New York City tells the story very directly of Sally’s’ journey in regards to music. “ My feet tapped a thousand rhythms I became a chameleon (came out,) I learnt it in the lyrics that I sang inside a thousand songs”
At the time of recording all this material, from (2004-2008) she felt restricted when she attempted to confine herself to just one genre, she was constantly shedding her skin and changing her colors.....just being true to Sally.
On this 2nd collection of her independent recordings she stretches herself even further than the Indies Vol 1, and decides to do away with words completely and flex the muscle of her vocal instrument on the free vocal pieces: “Heater’ and Inside Beauty lies” These pieces reflect a purity, depth and beauty that was instantly recognized by the Bobby Love Film company in USA. ‘Inside Beauty Lies’ was chosen to be on the soundtrack on a “Skatin 66” documentaries.
“Heater” which was performed by Sally and her partner/guitarist Phillip Stone is dedicated to awareness of global warming.
