Conceived in Salem, OR in the winter of 2001, THEforREALS began with simple intentions. To escape the frustration of playing under domineering solo artists, and create music and sound more for enjoyment than for solving immediate cash-flow problems. With the assistance of an 80''s vintage Roland 707 drum machine, the three seasoned players have come upon a distinctive group sound. Comprised of Norm Buccola(bass, vocals), Micah Kassell(drums, guitar, vocals), and Tom Nunes(bass, vocals), THEforREALS tend to push heavy pockets of air as a bass and drums power trio.
Having originally met in High School, Norm and Micah began playing together in High School band and went on to form the band Succatash in 1998. During a gradual dissolving of Succatash, Norm continued writing his own twisted bass songs and played with various Northwest acts such as Organic Mechanic and singer/songwriter, Stephanie Schneiderman. Micah went on to play around the west coast with aggro-funk group, Porterhouse as well as the local modern jazz guitar guru, Dan Balmer. While Micah and Norm were playing in different projects, Tom was touring throughout the states and setting musical trends with the Jive Talkin'' Robots. Finally, on one fine summer eve, the three finally met up playing at a friends party as the impromptu house band for the night. A chemistry ensued and a sound was beginning to form. The three players continued to gather, only this time in the studio, where they would record their debut, Prairie Songs EP.
