Details:
Theory of Everything''s sophomore CD, ''Evolution of the ''Art, represents a shift from the quirky folk of their self-titled debut into a more rock-y realm. The guitar is more crunchy, the songs more punchy, the grooves a little deeper, and the tone more decidedly political, with many of the songs written in the months and weeks before the disastrous 2004 presidential election. What remains is the band''s use of eclectic instruments (flute, melodion, trumpet, sax, freedom horn...) and its genre-jumping eclecticism, swerving from punkabilly (Deathmobile) to political disco (Never Gonna Buy It), to toe-tapping singalong (Hug a Republican) to Buddhist pop (Note to Self)... The whole package is tied together with Darrin''s lyrics: provocative, inspiring, hearfelt, and humorous, sometimes all at once. During the reggae-rap of the "title" track, (r)Evolution of the (he)Art, he sings, " The heart is a muscle the size of your fist; you gotta keep lovin'', rise up and resist," a line that made it onto the cover design, which in turn made it onto Darrin''s arm in the form of a tattoo. How rocknroll is that?

Bonus: CD packaged in eco-friendly paperboard case. Comes with a free sticker!
