Details:
then...

In 1994 in Dallas, TX. Three musicians joined forces to form The Reach. For the next three years, drummer Tommy Watts, bassist Dave Scott, and guitarist/vocalist Craig Miller toured throughout the Southwest, garnering radio play, vigorous CD sales, critical acclaim, and major label interest. The sky seemed the limit for this Power Pop trio.

The highlight of this period was the recording of their debut CD "Closer" with veteran Dallas, TX
producer Keith Rust. Bright spots on the album included the ethereal "Away," the R.E.M.-esque "Rules (purebred)," and the deeply personal "Never Let Go." However the track which best sums up the band''s sound at this period is the title track "Closer." Watts and Scott provide a haunting hypnotic backdrop while Miller''s frenetic guitar sets the tone for a look inside the mind of a stalker. "It''s not necessarily a violent song," says Miller. "It''s a cliffhanger for the listener. You''re left
wondering just what this guy''s plannning to do."

The album received consistent airplay from Dallas area local music programs, as well as national radio play from Baltimore to New Orleans to Atlanta. After putting on strong shows with The Samples and Deep Blue Something, the band had major label interest, lots of new material, and a seemingly bright future. But in the words of VH1''s Behind the Music, "That''s when it all fell apart."

Personal issues and creative differences caused the band to split in 1997. Miller moved to Atlanta to pursue his solo material and an advertising career. Scott joined forces with Dallas grungers Psalm 69 and then moved to Europe. Watts concentrated on raising two new daughters, playing in a few short lived projects, including Sushi Gabor and The Digs. The Reach seemed to be over.

now...

But the new millenium brings new hope. The advent of the internet and MP3 has exposed The Reach to boundless new markets, and people seem to be finally catching on to this overlooked band. Since 2000, The Reach has had nearly 40,000 downloads on https://www.tradebit.com, with new demos like "You," "Mistress," and "All Right," cracking https://www.tradebit.com''s Alternative Top 10. "We don''t have the typical Texas blues or country influences, and the Dallas music scene never knew quite what to make of us. But the internet gives us worldwide exposure to people all over the world who understand what we''re getting at."

Buoyed by the new success and the wisdom of hindsight, drummer Watts and frontman Miller have decided to reform and record new material this spring. "I''ve always regretted not doing another record," says Miller. "Now is the time." With a more mature approach to songwriting, and a new confidence and enthusiasm for their product, Watts and Miller look forward to creating more music."

"That music deserves to be completed." says Watts. "I know that we''ve got it in us to still make something really special from this band." Stay tuned!!
