Camille Nelson’s encouraging lyrics offer a cordial invitation to listeners into the singer-songwriter’s experiences, travels and lessons learned along the way. Her debut album, First Words, introduces a radically inspirational blend of lyrics and acoustics. “I’m an optimist,” she explains, “and I write songs that pick me up, echo my support for those I care about and provide a daily reminder to appreciate all life has to offer.”
Aptly named, First Words chronicles Camille’s early years as a young girl and musician growing up in Salt Lake City, Utah. One can rightly assume that her first word was music, raised the youngest of six siblings born into a musically inclined family. Camille’s parents were both formally trained in music, her father a violist and her mother a professional opera singer. Growing up, music became her way of observing, sharing and exploring the world around her.
Her passion for both songwriting and performance blossomed quickly, and she began playing the violin and piano at the young age of six. Entering her teen years, Camille migrated to the guitar at age 15, influenced by the transcendent sounds of Sarah McLachlan, the intensity of Sting, the pristine vocals of Alison Krauss and the acoustic guitar solos of Michael Hedges, Andy Mckee and Antoine Dufour. Over time, she learned to meld her own melodies with lyrics, sharing her extraordinary optimism to a growing circle of supporters.
