How many minutes do you have left?

It''s a time in music when everyone is looking for the next indie-rock masterpiece or a band they can compare to respected-but-relatively-unknown bands like My Bloody Valentine or The Stooges. What about a band that just makes great music? How about a group of guys that have ''the sound'' but aren''t looking to create a new genre? Enter Two Million Minutes ... it is time ...

Two Million Minutes are an Orange County, California based alternative rock trio originally hailing from Lakewood, CA (a suburb of both Long Beach and Los Angeles) that superimpose ambient, textural guitar work, and lush, counter-intuitive melodies upon a sonic foundation of milky bass lines and seismic drumming. Two Million Minutes employ a modern, groove-laden alt-rock platform to feature both memorable songs and a strong melodic presence. Combine the laid-back Long Beach attitude with LA immediacy and you''re there (minus the traffic).

A combination of three guys who have known each other for many years and have worked together in a number of incarnations, Two Million Minutes coalesced out of a like-minded desire to make superb rock without sacrificing intensity, musicianship or melody. As lead singer Tony P. put it, "This is my last band."

After all, it is about the music, right? Apparently so -- the band was nominated for "Best Alternative Band" (2004) and "Best Pop Rock" band (2005) at the Orange County Music Awards; they were featured artists on 95.5 KLOS'' "Local Licks" show, LBC https://www.tradebit.com and KCLA fm; their music was in regular rotation at the San Diego Padres'' Qualcomm Stadium in 2003; the band had two songs and one video featured in the Battista Brothers DVD feature film, Errors, Freaks & Oddities; they were national finalists in the Global Battle of the Bands; one of the band''s songs was featured on the Orange County compilation CD "The Future of Alternative Music (FOAM)," and their single "I Wanna Be Romeo" is beginning to burn up online radio podcasts.

Simultaneously upbeat in tone yet darkly introspective, the band''s songs reveal their innermost yearnings, existential struggles, and idealistic imaginings. Their sound combines the energy of 90''s alternative rock, the songcraft and musicianship of modern pop, and quasi-industrial, ambient flavors.

Think of bands whose songs have stuck with you. Two Million Minutes will be in that category.

The critics agree:

"The music is really good . . . the arrangements sound really tight . . . Impressive . . . it''s just good music. I love the last one . . . ("Mannequin Radio") -- the opening riff reminds me of the old 70s guitar distortion/Aerosmith sound, but then it''s followed up with a melody that has the total contemporary alternative rock sound, plus a great guitar solo. Also there''s a lot of texture in the song. Really good groove!"

"I Wanna Be Romeo" and "I Can''t Breathe" are simply two of the strongest new songs I''ve heard this year, a cross between Travis'' melodic Brit-pop and Weezer''s post-punk pop. . . Two Million Minutes . . . has forged a sound boasting strong pop, rock and alt influences that would have sounded fresh in 1983 and yet sounds harmoniously in tune with some of today''s best rock outfits."

Robert Kinsler, The Orange County Register (12/19/03)

"Now, with the release of ''Resilientman'' it''s clear that Tony P. (guitar, vocals), Fred Shook (drums, backing vocals) and Cory Spakes (bass) are using their musical minutes as if every moment were their last. From the shimmering ''I Wanna Be Romeo'' and ''I Can''t Breathe'' to the title track and ''Mannequin Radio,'' this is a stellar dozen-song collection that fuses power pop and alternative rock without compromising either."

Robert Kinsler, The Orange County Register (3/26/04)

"The songs are at once classic and immediate, all in the same moment . . . their work shows the great promise of things to come. Even at this stage, much of two million minutes'' music is
better than what you''re hearing on mainstream rock radio today. Taking the time to study the lyrics generates an even deeper appreciation of what two million minutes are all about."

"Every once in a while, we stick a record in, click ''play,'' and it just happens: no hype, no trying to sift through layers of nothing to get to the heart of it, no bullmake. You just know you''ve struck a little piece of gold. Resilientman is one those all-too-infrequent records that comes from a trio of local guys who pour all they''ve got into every song, and you just never get tired of hearing it. If the lovesick strains of "Crazy Beautiful" don''t get to you (we''ve all been there), then the pulsing "Dark Fly" or one of the other ten songs will do the trick. Singer Tony P''s leave-it-all-on-the-table delivery is perfectly matched by the Bun E. Carlos smoothness of drummer Fred Shook and bassist Cory Spakes'' bottom end antics. These guys won''t be an indie band for long..."

"Alternative rock with catchy hooks, clean playing and well produced, this new release offers a lot of promise. Reading through the lyrics, I was caught offguard by the literary quality of some of them . . . Well chosen tracks, nicely paced, sung and played with passion . . . This CD comes highly recommended."

"Sue Nami" (aka Martin Brown), Live Magazine, April 2004

"I love this band, and I think you will too . . . I love that song ("I Wanna Be Romeo"). That''s one of those songs that you remember from when you hear them play live."

Sheena Metal, KCLA 99.3 fm, KLSX 97.1 fm, Music Highway

"It''s one of those songs that really does stick out, and it has the potential to be something big . . . "

Jeff Raymond, KCLA 99.3 fm

Their style has been described as having the alt-pop edge of Stone Temple Pilots, the soul-wrenching honesty of Alanis Morissette, the ambience of Radiohead, and the riffage of Aerosmith - as played by Beatle-heads. Not a bad list for comparison.
