The Mighty Couch Potatoes first came together in 2003, in historic downtown San Jose. From the start the band has been primarily focused on creating/performing all-ORIGINAL Rock and Blues music! Initially drawing from the existing catalog of compositions from each of the musicians in the group, the band has been steadily adding new tunes to it''s repertoire at a somewhat astounding rate! It is not unusual for TMCP to produce 5 or 10 new compositions over the course of a month. The collection has grown to over 100 original songs over the past years!
The Mighty Couch Potatoes, (the first self-titled c.d.), was released in Nov. 2004. The c.d. contains a varied and diverse selection of songs which reflect the wide range of influences and song-writing styles that the band embraces. From the Straight-ahead Rock of: It Is Like You Are Still Here, to the Cajun-FUNK! Of Billy''s Enchilada Song; the Classic Rock sounds of Tearin Down Sunnyvale, Feelin Good and I Do Not Know Why; and including the softer acoustically-styled: Do You Still Love Me and On & On... and back to the BIG Blues tunes like: Down In The Dirt and the (classic): Lef By Mysel Blues - the band delivers a remarkable sound that features wailing guitar solos, tightly blended counterpoint chording, a BOOMING rhythm section, and the effortless harmonic vocal arrangements.
The Mighty Couch Potatoes have appeared in local San Jose clubs, including the Britannia Arms, The Kings Head Pub, the Pacific Palms Bar & Grill, and Joselines Café to name a few. They have also played at the San Jose Giants game (and have been asked back this year), as well as private parties and concerts over the last several months. KKUP Radio featured the c.d. and a LIVE! Performance in-studio in March 2005 (on the Best Blues Show).
