Land of The Midnight Son: Norwegian Christmas in America is a collaboration between Norwegian-American Mezzo-Soprano, Linda (Gundersen) Priebe and Norwegian Pianist and Composer Ola Gjeilo. The recording takes you on a musical journey through Christmas in Norway and America with diverse and eclectic pairings of Norwegian and American Christmas songs. Selections range from beloved traditional favorites to jazz, gospel, classical, contemporary and even native music from the Sami and Huron people sung in Norwegian, English, Huron and Sami. “Land of The Midnight Son” transports you into the cozy and twinkling home of Norwegian-American Mezzo-Soprano, Linda Priebe and at Christmas. Vibrant reds, evergreens and the golden glow of candles sparkle in every nook and window. Norwegian chocolates filled w/brandy, almond cookies and cakes with whipped cream and berries are enjoyed by family and friends. Born to a Norwegian mother and American father in the U.S., the musical traditions and language of Norway filled Linda’s childhood intermingling with American customs and traditions. Norwegian Pianist and Composer Ola Gjeilo, a graduate of the Julliard School who composes and performs jazz and classical music in New York City, joins Linda on piano. The CD also includes Trombonist and Alphorn player, Brian Priebe.
