"Suburban Films" uses the premise of yet-to-be-made films (or perhaps documentaries) to dabble in a range of electronic sounds. Dark Flow blends Electronica with various doses of Industrial, House, and Ambient. Club-intent "Disco Commute" sits uncomfortably alongside the spooky night of "Escape" and the oddly humorous "Legends of Rock Go Shopping" jarringly contrasts the mechanical grind of "Infernal Machine".
The dominant form here is individual introduction of motifs, nearly always punctuated with Glitch sounds for variation''s sake, leading up to a climactic blending of seemingly incongruous sounds into a sonic fight for attention. The result is undoubtedly dense - a quiet listening environment is a must in some cases, as noisy surroundings can blur the density into an amorphous wall of sound.
Even with a range of synthetic colors, the mood is consistently dark, even for songs that would be expected to project joy, such as "Teenybopper". Perhaps "Suburban Films" suggests a Suburban life full of unspoken phobias, rituals, and dreams, waiting to be captured by the right filmmaker.
