David Chung performs extensively on a variety of historic and modern keyboard instruments to critical acclaim. His concert activities have taken him to many music festivals and antique keyboard collections in cities across Europe, North America, and Asia, including solo recitals in London (Benton Fletcher Collection), Hatchlands (Cobbe Collection), Cambridge (Asia-Europe Vision Group), Cannes, Villarceaux (Festival d’Ile-de-France), Texas, and Hong Kong (New Vision Arts Festival), as well as inaugural recitals for the new Headquarters of the World Fish Center in Penang, Malaysia. As a chamber musician he has collaborated with such artists as Runa Baagøe, Victoria Brawn, Ian Davidson, Jane Downer, Peter Hanson, Markku Luolajan-Mikkola, and Donna Orbovich, and with such orchestras as the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Hong Kong Virtuosi, the City Chamber of Hong Kong, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Macau Chamber Orchestra. His CD of stylus phantasticus works by Bach and his contemporaries is available from URM Audio.

Chung studied music and French at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and upon graduation was awarded the Jardine Matheson Scholarship for performing studies at the Royal Academy of Music, London. He received the Commonwealth Scholarship for pursuing musicological research at Churchill College, Cambridge, where he completed his doctoral dissertation on seventeenth-century French keyboard music. Under the guidance of Gill Severs, he was awarded the Concert Recital Diploma (Premier Prix) at the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and was the recipient of a scholarship to the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Italy. He has participated in masterclasses with eminent teachers, including Christopher Hogwood, Kenneth Gilbert, Davitt Moroney, and Linda Nicholson.

As a musicologist, he has contributed a critical edition of keyboard arrangements of Jean-Baptiste Lully’s orchestral music (UT Orpheus, 2004, https://www.tradebit.com) and has published articles and reviews in such journals as Early Music, Early Keyboard Journal, and the Journal of Seventeenth-Century Music (https://www.tradebit.com). He is also very much in demand as a teacher, and has given lectures, lecture recitals, and masterclasses at Trinity College of Music, Cambridge University, Texas State University, UT Austin, the Central Conservatory of Beijing, and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Chung currently lectures at Hong Kong Baptist University.
