Tomanonymous is the jazz-pop project of one Tom Connelly (not so anonymous now, are ya?), a San Franciscan who writes the songs and tackles bass and vocal duties. Connelly''s bass never settles for mere rhythm keeping, though; his versatile acoustic and electric four-string plunking is the album''s most prevalent and vital component. Most of the time, I am Be forgoes guitar in favor of less traditional instruments like the coronet, congas, pandeiro and cuatro. This instrumental nonconformity lends the music a fresh, eccentric vibe, as do the beds of urban found-sound ambience that cushion several tunes. Album opener "What''ll We Tell Shirley?" is a pastel-colored breeze, as Jeff Hobbs'' gleeful sax conjures thoughts of Hurricane-sipping on the patio of a salty South Carolina beach bar. "Forever and a Day" works up a mesmerizing Eastern drone.

** Biography **
It''s time for a change. Too often people (including Tom) are not mindful of what they do each day and it takes simplicity to cut through the noise of the masses. With this in mind, Tom has embarked on a new solo project--Tomanonymous. The songs are pieces of his life, some past, some present, and some still to be figured out. At times the sound is stripped down to raw emotional bass and vocals, while at other times an eclectic orchestration of musicians and ambient soundtracks are added. The addition of everyday ambient sounds enables the listener to develop their own scenario for the story being told to them - an audio visual - if you will. Tom is taking fervent new material and ideas to make a scene in the San Francisco scene and beyond. Tom plays bass guitar and sings. His new CD I am Be is available NOW as well as a series of performances that incorporate art with his music. The metanarrative is about how all of us relate to each other and to the world around us. Each listener can place themselves inside the songs, take a piece to their own life and gain from it. These songs may not change the world, but then again who knows...
Throughout his career, Tom has been a co-writer, part time lead singer, and full time bass player. Tom began his music career as a wannabe mod/punk rocker in the suburbs of Los Angeles. By age 15, he had bought his first bass guitar and by age 16 he stopped smashing his sister''s Bay City Roller records and was actually learning songs by The Who and The Clash. Tom hooked up with fellow classmates in his senior year and formed Raw Sewage--a collection of misfits performing everything from white reggae to show tunes to cartoon theme songs. They threw in a couple originals as well. Throughout college and the 5 years that followed several bands emerged as well as Tom''s lyric writing and bass playing. Here is where his writing began prying into some deeper emotional issues and his playing expanded his knowledge of composition and groove.
In the band Why Theory, Tom and guitarist friend Alan Vogan created a sound for themselves and toured from LA to San Francisco for about 4 years, Facing creative differences and a luke-warm interest in a college rock cover band they had formed, Tom decided to move on. After a two more band attempts and a layoff from a part time job, Tom packed up and moved to San Francisco. In SF, Tom found various projects and various interest levels.
The most successful of which was the Defunct Trio. Tom and now good friend Joe Sa''adeh, wrote, recorded and played in various venues around the Bay Area. They released a four song EP entitled 1 + 1 = 3, with several talented musicians in the area.
Upon finishing the CD, Tom and Joe brought the band to a close though their fans asked them back for a few repeat performances. Both Tom and Joe seek each other out for creative and music assistance in their current projects. Tom has played with other local projects as well, including the 50 Guitar Orchestra. The band gained its notoriety by performing naked at the Fillmore West in San Francisco.
