Diane Landry''s vocals are smoky and bluesy. Call Me is one of the steamiest proposals I''ve ever heard, and talk about intimate--her version of You''ve Changed "tears by me out the heart", to quote an Al Cohn title. Matt Lemmler is a pianist of rare originality and a point of view about standard songs that''s always surprising and often quirky. Landry and Lemmler work well together because they are each exponents of hot jazz, meaning they approach their material with energy, a terrific beat, and impassioned authority.
