Ellen Cross is a Boston based singer-songwriter exploring the edges of modern folk and indie rock. Embracing the hypnotic spell of Tim Buckley, the earthy rock of The Pretenders and the electronic emotion of Kate Bush she creates songs in the scraps of time left after her children go to sleep at night and the work of the day is done.
This makes for slow going. The CD was recorded in the quiet tiny spaces of the night in the tiny spaces of her home. With one child running around outside and one child percolating inside it was created in fits and starts over a few years time.
The Birds Still Sing features the work of some great Boston area musicians. It was recorded primarily in Ellen’s home studio/ living room. The songs are illustrative of the emotional landscape between contentment and desire.
