“Hardly anyone knows this,” Ed Thompson says with a big smile, “but I’m really quite famous.” And with that, you get a quick glimpse into the fun and good-natured personality of this creative and talented Christian singer and entertainer. Not only has he shared the stage with some of the biggest names in Christian music, but Grammy Award winning artist Bob Carlisle of “Butterfly Kisses” fame is quoted as saying, “Ed Thompson is one of the best Christian entertainers I’ve ever seen.”
Thompson has been entertaining audiences around the country for over 25 years with his award winning voice and hilarious comedy routines. “I’m getting close to becoming an over-night success,” he quips. From grand stages with thousands in the audience to a memorable event with just two in attendance (“freak blizzard” he explains), Ed, it seems, is comfortable just about anywhere he has the chance to perform.
When asked to explain his aptly titled, “Ed”ertainment show, he laughs and says, “Think Victor Borge with a Bible.” He pauses to let that sink in and then continues, “Victor Borge, if you remember, was an amazing musician who just couldn’t help but be funny. And while I don’t play the piano, I do have a couple of trumpets…” he says referring to his incredible “solo trumpet duet” routine that has been downloaded on places like YouTube and Stupid Videos over one million combined times.
And while the entertainment is superb, what most will remember is a special moment or two where the entertainment stops and Ed shares from his heart. “Hey, I’m a dad and husband,” he says, “who has all sorts of flaws and blemishes and struggles just like everybody else. But for reasons I may not ever fully understand, God loves me anyway. That blows my mind.”
The serious side of Ed Thompson is coming on full display with the release of his newest CD titled, “Beautiful Feet.” Written entirely by Thompson and multi-Dove-Award winning songwriter and producer, Don Koch, this latest release features lush ballads titled, “Love Me Anyway; Friday; and Baby That’s Love,” as well as up-tempo pop numbers such as “Superstar, Free Man, and That’s My Boy.” The first single was released to radio in January 2009 and this early release is already being picked up by stations across the country.
“Beautiful Feet” is also receiving accolades from industry insiders who are thrilled with very refreshing and meaningful lyrics surrounded by memorable melodies and top quality production (i.e., the Prague Symphony Orchestra conducted and arranged by Phillip Keveren). “This is wonderful music for moms and dads of all ages that even your teenagers will enjoy.”
