Details:
Explosive doesn''t even begin to describe Tripleswift''s second album.

The fire and ice on ''Everything Ends This Way'' ignites the emotionally cathartic effort of one of Portland''s most high-octane rock groups. Tripleswift is Paul Bond on vocals and guitar, Eddie Esparza on drums, Brian McGrew on guitar and vocals and Brendan Slevin on bass. But the band is much more than four guys.

The fifth member of the group -- the high energy the four produce on stage -- is captured on the new album. And throughout the CD, that powerful energy is fighting to get out.

''Everything'' is Tripleswift''s diverse and well developed follow-up to ''Fuzz,'' a powerhouse first effort that combined pure, simple rock with fuzzed out tones to create a dark pop sound. Tripleswift is passionate yet polished on ''Everything''. They haven''t strayed from their commitment to high energy rock, but they''ve tempered their quest with melodic guitar riffs, heavy bass rhythms, intense drums and powerful vocals.

The new album comes on full force, leaving little room to take a breath at the end of each song. ''Everything'' doesn''t repeat itself, instead building off what came before. Like ''Fuzz,'' It was recorded by Jeff Saltzman(Steve Malkmus, Sunset Valley) and mastered by Tony Lash. The first single, "Blue Horses" bursts out of a simple guitar riff and erupts into pummeling beats. "As Serious as I Can Be" has a contemplative, dark beginning -- a showcase for Paul''s vocals that range from soft and plaintive to defiant. And "Seven Days" rounds out the end of the album with a staccato pace and Tripleswift''s trademark high-octane energy.

Paul writes most of the bands lyrics, honest, original lines pegged on tight rhythms and melodies. An Iron Maiden fan and a U2 devotee started what is now Tripleswift in Woodland, WA, Paul and Eddie''s hometown. After the two honed their skills together in high school and later in other bands, Tripleswift finally came to the stage in 1997. Brian and Brendan balance out the group -- both bringing melody, rhythm and strength.

"The name isn''t really a word play," says Paul, sitting on a stool and playing with his dog. "But it''s like faster than double-time. We''re not a speed metal band, but the key to our music is high energy." I''m interviewing the band for their bio in Paul''s Vancouver basement where the band creates its sound. For all the vibrancy the band has on stage, for all their rawness when they''re at their craft, these four are quiet and unassuming off stage. Almost bashful. It''s nice, actually.

They laugh at Brendan for his youth and tease Brian about being the band''s pretty face (hardly the only one in the band). Paul is the idealistic leader who wrote a mission statement for the band. "My vision is pure and I must move forward accordingly," the mission says. "I want to keep it simple away from the flash, but I will keep it modern."

Paul adds that their music should be "things you can hum." Eddie picks up a bongo and absent-mindedly drums most of the interview. He''s the mouth of the group, despite being the only member who doesn''t sing on ''Everything''. Eddie sells the band effortlessly to everyone he meets. His work pays off. Their shows consistently pack clubs throughout the Northwest.
And it''s no surprise the band is vibrant and animated on stage, all of their music comes from industrious and creative jam sessions.

"I''m passionate about music. I can see it," Paul says. "We have the right group of guys and the right formula to make it. We''re never content."
