Tuck Neilson was born into a musical family and began playing boogie woogie piano with his father at an early age. Also proficient on clarinet, harmonica and guitar in junior high school, Tuck was briefly in the bands, Thornwood Mill, ''Lil Elmo and the Cosmos, The Mouse Mammary Tumor Band, and The Flatus Four. Tuck''s cousin, Wayne Massey, was nominated for a "Best New Male Singer" at the Grammy''s in the mid eighties. Tuck''s Uncle was a yodeler. Tuck''s Grandfather would regularly "jam" with Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. His Grandmother and aunt owned and ran, "Georgia Massey''s School of Song and Dance in Los Angeles." Tuck''s other aunt Donna, hired a young teenage singer who would baby sit Tuck by the name of Connie Stevens. This aunt was also recently reunited with her group, "The Debs" to sing in Las Vegas as "The Hot Flash." Further, four of Tuck''s cousins were known as the "Dukes" and won the Hollywood Bowl Battle of the Bands in the late sixties while releasing a west coast hit song, "Surf Bird."
Tuck wrote and performed medical based barbershop quartet humor while in medical school as "The Flatus Four." This group won three "All-Hill Talent Shows," and was featured on ABC TV''s "Faces and Places" in years past as well as "Summers At Large." In the ''90''s, Tuck still sang in church choirs while doing radio jingles and writing a musical play with John Thoennes. Likewise, he and Bruce Smith did the soundtrack for a PBS special "Conservation in Rural America." Tuck also played with the rock cover band "Patriot" up until 1995.
Tuck''s solo CD was released in 1993 and combines elements of all Tuck''s broad musical background, but is predominately rock/pop adult alternative in style with varied tempos and multiple instrument and vocal uses. No two songs are identical in style and type. Even "Number One" has a hip-hop element to it.
Tuck''s album sold out in Portland, OR where he was interviewed on Radio Shows with airplay in the Pacific Northwest.
Tuck has now retired this year from his medical practice and is back to writing, recording, and producing. His most recent project featured vocal and guitar master blues singer, David Jones.
"Secret Doctor Dances," engineered by Grammy award winning producer Chris Huston and complimented by Tuck''s friend, the outstanding producer, Tony Visconti, has songs that are written, played, and sung by Tuck Neilson with the help of John Thoennes, Charlie Raw, Bruce Smith, Ken Kirby, and Scott Casey. The CD is distributed by Axis Distribution, Burnside Distributors, and Crystal Heart Records, and is also available on many online stores with a search for "Tuck Neilson."
