Details:
Long before it was popular in the U.S. Mega8Ball has been creating new sounds blending rock and rap. In Japan, the wonderful yet musically-risk-adverse island nation that it is, new musical styles are tough to sell. Mega8Ball therefore has had a slower rise than they deserve. Time however, has only strengthened their musical prowess, and now they are getting noticed!

This mini-album, 888, released (August 8th, 2008), is a focused effort on breaking further barriers and melding musical influences. Don’t believe any musical stones are left unturned? Well, let me ask you… what would a mix of Social Distortion, Rage Against the Machine, Sublime, and and Linkin Park sound like? The answer is Mega8Ball’s 888!

“Jason” tells the tragic tale of a seemingly lost soul. Starting slow and ominous with a great Mexican guitar, you truly get the sense that the song’s namesake is worthy of a long storytelling. But as the vocal pair (Yutaka and Takahito) burst in, the lyrics run fast and furious. While condemning him though, the song finishes with an almost inspirational twist… dare I say it… not since hamlet have we seen this kind of writing… there, I said it!

“My Wrong Life” meanwhile, is a window’s down, driving around town, smile on your face, sing the chorus (cause it is in English), ironic, feel good song. And just think, stopped at that traffic light, what neighboring car would not be impressed that you are listening to cool Japanese rock!?

Finally, “Perfect World” is a anthem, suitable for pumping you up before a night out. Rikiji’s signature deep bass will have you bobbing your head as if you too were covered in tattoos and looking for a fight.

Available now in physical CD form, these songs will also be available on iTunes and other digital download services in the near future. But, when you buy the CD, you get the lyrics, band/staff names, and best of all, the fulfilling sense of helping an artist realize their musical dreams! Not to mention, what a great conversation piece…

You won’t be sorry (you know, if you buy it!)!
