Details:
Blackberry River Band’s sophomore CD, “Brand New Toy”, is a product of the group performing live and composing crowd-pleasing songs. More raucous then their first CD, “Brand New Toy” can be classified as rock (“Carry On”, “Five Dimensions”), although staying true to their roots, the group has included softer Americana songs (“Gonna Do Better”, “To Survive”) and honky-tonk (“Too Drunk to Remember”, “Waiting for Your Call”).

Reviews have described the band’s production with having “compelling song arrangements and skillful instrumentation” The band demonstrates it’s “ability to cross genre boundaries with great ease vocally and musically”. Fans of Wilco, Sheryl Crow and Bob Dylan will appreciated the group’s rock to folk songwriting art.

Singer-songwriter Lisa Thurman grew up singing in choir and having spent her formative years in the Mississippi Delta and Appalachian Mountains she was influenced by both Delta Blues and Mountain Music. Her voice has been compared to Alisson Krauss, Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Nicks.

David Thurman (vocals, bass), native of Delaware, is a prolific songwriter. Blackberry River Band’s award winning debut CD, “Santa Fe”, released in 2006, received outstanding reviews, national and international airplay. As “featured international artists” the group was interviewed and performed live on Canada’s first and longest running public radio station.

Abbot Grivich (vocals, guitar,) joined the group in 2007 and debuts three original songs on “Brand New Toy”. Dana Koone does steady, grooving drum work and Richard Barnette is featured on mandolin. Rich Hendricks plays a riveting guitar on two songs including “We Live Free”. Most of the CD was recorded at Aweberry Records Studio in North Carolina. The CD was mixed by Ben Holst in Atlanta with additional recordings in Nashville. Tom Lewis mastered the CD in Athens, Georgia.
