"The snare drum is seldom thought of as a serious solo concert instrument. It lacks the obvious melodic and harmonic capabilities of other musical instruments. But these issues are not a hindrance to composing for the snare drum, and actually allow for the development of new approaches to composition as well as listening and appreciation.
