Listeners have described the Bisceglia family’s debut album Journey Through The Highlands, as beautiful, relaxing, charming and fun! The song list includes a delightful mix of Scottish songs and patriotic ballads, Irish melodies, country music favorite Daddy’s Hands, contemporary American folk, and, of course, the title piece Journey Through the Highlands, an award-winning instrumental written by fifteen year old Krista Bisceglia.
Music has always been important in the Bisceglia home. Each of the five children began piano lessons at age three and were encouraged to choose another instrument as musical skills were developed. The Bisceglia’s began sharing their music in retirement homes in 1998 and each child contributed to the evolving sound of the band as they learned new instruments. With the addition of the harp and recorders (also known as English flutes), their music took on a distinctly Celtic flavor. The Bisceglia’s fell in love with the sound, rhythms, melodies, and lyrics of the folk music of Scotland and Ireland and have focused on this genre ever since. They also enjoy including American folk, bluegrass, and Christian hymns in their repertoire. Sisters Sarah, Janna, Krista, and Kathrina (known as Whispering Roses) form the core of the band with a beautiful fusion of piano, harp, recorders, violin, and voice. The rest of the family rounds out the collection with added voices, guitar and even a limberjack! At the request of fans, the Bisceglia family finally recorded an album so folks can bring the music home!
