Song suites. King Arthur on Ice. Roman numerals. In a musical landscape littered with cookie-monster metal, cookie-cutter R&B, and cut-rate angst, some of the finer things in music are being ignored of late. But not by Ness. This is a band unbothered by the mercurial trappings of trend. You are a busy person, you have things to do. Ness clearly don''t give a fuck about you and your inessential schedule. The title track alone of Up Late With People clocks in at nearly thirteen glorious minutes (but only feels like 8). It''s an inventive, nay, a mind-bending journey that will leave no listener unchanged. Not even you.

But Ness is not about Roger Dean posters and beards. They will not make Yes make their capes. Strip away the filigree of their adventurous song structures and you are left with classic songwriting pure and simple. From the opening sugar rush of Where The People Kick It to the effervescent thrills of Adelaide, you will feel like you are in the hands of some kind of rock Frankenstein with the head of Rod Argent, the heart of Ray Davies, and the soul of Scott Walker. But lest you think these guys sound like total pussies, know that they pack the muscle of early Cheap Trick and the Sweet. Sounds good, doesn''t it?

Live the band has no peers. The rhythm section of Bill Swartz and John San Juan (yes, that''s his real name) can bludgeon like Moon and Entwhistle or caress like Starr and McCartney while Phil Young conjures harmonically complex lines on a stack of keys. Rick Ness perches lordly on top of this kingdom of sound on a throne built by Vox and wielding a powerful sceptor that looks suspiciously like a Les Paul. Miss them at your own peril. In an age where up is down and dog is cat and a rock band can go platinum without even having a bass player (what''s up with that?), Ness are needed like never before. They will make your ears salivate.

**The full-length Ness debut, Up Late With People, is an enhanced cd that includes the video for the single "Where the People Kick It."

A breif history of Ness...
Chicago''s Ness were formed in 2001 by two ex-members of Fig Dish after they broke up due to creative similarities (different members once wrote the same exact song independently of one another). Taking their music in an entirely new direction (like ye do), Rick Ness and Bill Swartz successfully seduced John San Juan (also of the Hushdrops) and Phil Young (formerly of Godspeaks & Moxy Blue) into the Ness line-up. The band was somewhat side-lined in 2002 as band members were involved in different musical endeavors. Rick Ness was touring and recording with the Webb Brothers while Bill Swartz was drumming for Chicago''s Frisbie. Bill was also engaged in various studio projects, including sessions for the latest John Cale album. Ness regrouped and released Up Late With People, which was produced by Andy Gerber (Caviar, Local H, Kevin Tihista) and Neal Ostrovsky (The Webb Brothers, the Bon Mots).
