Details:
Piano was originally formed by Jeremy Mortimer and Christopher Haywood, seeking to pursue their musical interests in light of a fluent writing partnership.
As numerous members came and went, the band followed a varied musical evolution through rock, hardcore, pop covers, progressive, and neo-classical instrumental work.
A renewed focus was discovered with the introduction of Ciaran Cahill, and the band began to gig with the likes of Eden Maine, My Awesome Compilation, Jairus, and Tribute To Nothing.
In 2005 Piano signed to Japanese label Zestone records who duly released the debut EP ‘Monogamy is Encouraged’, which sold many thousands over the first few months.
In February 2006 Piano recruited talented new vocalist and front man Daniel Tompkins, and a new and exciting balance between each member’s solo abilities was discovered. Larger roles for keyboards and acoustic guitars matured the sound, and provided an atmosphere where the 3 part vocals could deliver greater depth.
The band soon embarked on a UK tour sharing stages with Second Smile, Meet Me in St Louis, and The Abner. As a result of the success of the EP and a growing fan base, Piano were invited to headline a tour of Japan in late 2006, playing packed venues with bands such as Envy, Lost and Palm. The tour included 10 shows in each of Japan’s largest cities including Tokyo and Osaka.
In 2007 the band started work on new material, the intelligence and appeal of which was noticed by ‘Ex-SikTh’ duo Dan Weller and Justin Hill, who joined the band in the studio over the summer. At the end of the year the band made a welcome return to the live arena, co-headlining another UK tour with Second Monday.
In April 2008 Piano released a 4 track EP on Zestone records ‘The Valediction of Verse’ again selling many thousands and to follow they returned to Japan in late summer for another successful headline tour.
Meanwhile the band is writing new material for their debut album, and with every exposure they continue to attract a variety of new listeners.
