It would be a cliché to say that Jennings Dulin was playing country before country was cool. It’s just that country music just happened to become what “JD” already was. Jennings has been carving a niche for himself since the early 80’s, from Music Row in Nashville to the pig-roast circuit in the Shenandoah Valley. His songs “Madison Moonshine” and “Wood Trolls” had been in rotation on WSLA in Louisa, Virginia and captured the imagination of the stations audience, which ran up and down Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley . JD found himself in demand on an endless circuit of pig roasts, barbecues and “mountain parties” as well as club dates and opening slots for artist such as Travis Tritt.
A powerful guitarist with a rich, whiskey tinged, barroom baritone, JD has forged a writing style that captures the true character and spirit of “country”. He can spin out a “tears in my beer” ballad with the best of them but it’s his songs that speak of real life in rural America that sets his music apart from the more formulaic country writers of today. “Madison Moonshine” and “Wood Trolls” have received numerous awards in national songwriting competitions and have been pitched to national country artists by Sony /Tree publishing in Nashville.
With the current popularity of country music, JD is finding a wider audience for his music. His “In The City” received a certificate of achievement from Billboard Magazine and demonstrates his shift to more universal themes from his country roots. His crossover ballad “Ash, Dust and Dirt” won second place in the Folk division and Honorable mention in the Country division in the Mid Atlantic Song Contest and was included on their annual winners compilation CD.
JD has been hailed by Country Plus Magazine for his “great songs, great singing and great guitar playing.” It’s all true. His recordings bear it out. His live shows bear it out.
