Colby Parson is the founding member of The Us Electric, a project he started following a brief stint with The Asprn, another Industrial group founded by Parson. His musical contributions are characteristically dark with songs primarily inspired by adverse psychological states. His prolific repertoire includes compositions ranging from Gothic to Industrial to Ambient and Experimental to Electroclash and Dark Wave. Susan writes, "Colby is the heart and soul of our creative endeavors. His drive and musical genius amaze and inspire me on a daily basis." Susan is a true force to be reckoned with. Her driving beats lay much of the foundation for The Us Electric''s music. Her songs characteristically gravitate between high energy pieces that experiment with rhythm and state of the art electronic soundscapes to brooding laments inspired by psychedelic and gothic artists. According to Colby, "She takes chances I wouldn''t necessarily undertake myself. I am consistently pleased with the results."
Alarm is the second Us Electric release. Most of the tracks were written and recorded autumn 2001. All aspects of the project, including the mixing and mastering, were overseen by Colby and Susan. Both members learned a great deal about music production during this project. Massive upgrades to equipment and software helped shape the soundscape of the production. In particular, softsynths like Propellerhead''s Reason and Rebirth are featured prominently. The vocals are heavily distorted or utilize a vocoder-like formant and pitch correction method. The Us Electric plans to use their new found knowledge to further refine their unique sound.
The content of Alarm ranges in style from Electroclash and Experimental to Industrial. Some songs are brooding (Regret, Cenotaph, December Rising) while others have a frenetic quality (Marginal Pose, Transit).
