MP3 Adam Varona - Coffee and Nirvana

Incredibly catchy pop melodies over raw and remarkable rock music. For fans of Toad the Wet Sprocket, The Lemonheads...eh, for fans of good rock music.

10 MP3 Songs
POP: California Pop, ROCK: Acoustic

Details:
If you took some garage rock, indie-folk and ridiculously catchy pop and threw it in a blender with some early 90''s college radio, you''d come out with something that sounds like The Famous Celebrities (the incranation of a band that was once just a backing band for Adam Varona...and now Varona & The FC''s are just THE FAMOUS CELEBRITIES), a high-energy band out of Sacramento, California that has been making waves on the independent music scene throughout 2004.

Molded with the same clay as the Barenaked Ladies, but mixed with the melancholy reserve of the Lemonheads, The Famous Celebrities are the fastest rising pop band in Northern California. In fact, the five-piece group, including Adam Varona on acoustic guitar, Dave Middleton on electric guitar, Julie Meyers on keyboards, Mike Rofe on drums and Dustin Sharlock on bass, has recently opened for Dishwalla, Roger Clyne of The Refreshments, Sebadoh and 7Seconds'' front-man Kevin Seconds. They have also played throughout the West Coast, including Reno, Las Vegas, Tucson, Phoenix, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Berkeley and Santa Rosa, all to rave audience reviews.

Their debut album "Coffee & Nirvana" has sold over 500 copies in live shows alone since its release at the sorely missed, Kevin Seconds owned True Love Coffeehouse earlier this year. The record, dubbed "a regional product worthy of national attention," by the Davis Enterprise and "a reflective, well done and thoroughly enjoyable album" by West Coast Performer Magazine. has also been selling strong online though CD Baby and ITunes.

But, in the end, it''s their live show that makes The Famous Celebrities stick out from the crowd. The group throws pop in your face with a rock attitude, described by the Sacramento News & Review as "like Toad the Wet Sprocket lurching through a set of Replacements covers." They also subscribe to having fun and playing the part of a performer onstage. Also, another perfect description from the News & Review this year laments, "It''s refreshing to hear and see a band that takes real joy in performing music. That kind of joy is infectious, and Varona himself is the primarily instigator of that joy: a man who clearly enjoys what he''s doing onstage."

Before heading out on a 3-week tour in February of 2005, their second D.I.Y. tour in six-months, the band plans to release its sophomore independent release, which famed-local producer and band-member Dave Middleton is tracking, producing and mixing.
