Details:
Tyrannis started in March 2008 as my attempt at seeing how far I could take the latest in home recording technology to create an entire album of music.

I have dabbled all my life with recording my own music, ranging from adding tracks one-by-one on a standard dual-well cassette deck, to using my 486 PC with Turtle Beach Quad, some early 90''s 4-track recording software, but the limitations of the computer at that time were a bit too much - it was impossible to get MIDI and subsequent audio tracks to record without lags or dropouts in the middle. The hardware was too slow, and it was just too unwieldy.

So I put my music on the back burner for a little over a decade, and soon became immersed in the recording of live music performed by other people, recording hundreds of hours of audio over some thirteen years.

I became overwhelmed by the sheer amount of music I''d recorded, but by 2008, technology finally caught up with it all, and freed me to put an entire closet full of digital tapes on a single hard drive.

With room left on the hard drive for more music, I finally started to think about my own music again, and decided to take a look at the technology to see where it was at, and possibly to resurrect some of those old tunes.

I picked up a Roland SonicCell, which takes any analog input, and outputs a digital stream through a USB connection for computer-based recording.

And, lo and behold, computers are finally fast enough for recording and mixing.

And so it began. And in my classic style, I wanted to see how much of it I could do all by myself.

And so I did it.
