With a direct and powerful voice and an inherent ability to define experience through sound, Sue has astounded people with not only her vocal ability, but also her talent for creating new and unusual music. Her style comes from personal study of a blend of Eastern and Western philosophies and techniques. In the early 90’s when personal events forced her to change the direction of her life and challenge new ways of thinking, she overcame a severe case of stage fright and literally bounded onto the stage.
This leap into the Edmonton music scene began with the inception of the popular folk rock group ‘Nickelfinger’. The roster of talent over the years included: Kevin Smith, John Towill, Barrie Nighswander and Dwayne Hrynkiw. Together this ecclectic gathering of musicians created a niche for themselves with creative and playful music, playing such venues as, The Edmonton Folk Music Festival, First Night, Jazz City, Arctic Winter Games. Their recording ‘No Separation’ (also available) garnered strong support from local print and radio, including CBC (Canada AM and Edmonton PM) and CKUA.
Sue began to turn her interest towards multi-media events and along with choreographer Andrea Rabinovitch, created the stage performance TWINS at the Roxy Theatre. The band played live on stage during the performance which integrated dance, theatre, music and video. Sue’s interest in theatre was piqued, and eventually she took a one year program in Lecoq Physical Theatre.
In 1998, things took a magical turn. Sue attended a week long workshop at the Hollyhock retreat on Cortez Island in the use of Sound in Healing, led by the renowned Pat Moffitt Cook, Ph. D. This was a pivotal event, and Sue spent the next 10 years studying a broad base of techniques and teachings around the therapeutic use of sound and music. She began to lead toning and chanting groups, explore Tibetan Singing Bowls, give workshops and teach, all the while bringing more cross cultural sounds and disciplines into her own work.
In 2004, Sue became a formal part of the Music Ministry at the Centre For Spiritual Living. Weekly live performance honed her skills even further, and she began to write a whole new genre of music. Bringing some of the sensibilities of devotional music and of chant to a sound more recognized by the western ear, she has just released her newest recording, ‘Take Me Home’, a vacation for the mind, balm for the spirit, and food for the soul - New Thought lyrics wrapped in a stunningly beautiful and rich tapestry of influences; a mystical and magical adventure where East meets West and every heart opening song creates a healing sonic bath.

"For the last 15 years I have experienced the effect of music on others as I wrote and performed music. I experienced it personally as I created sound, and as I used sound as a tool to deal with health and wellness challenges. The study of using sound and music in a directed way was a natural for me. In a way I''ve always understood that all vibrations from the most subtle to the most obvious have a specific effect on us, emotionally, physically, and in ways which we often don’t pay any attention to. We know how much influence the sound track of a movie has on our feelings, but we seldom consider the role sound plays in our daily lives. We have created our own sonic atmospheres. Today, take time to note how the sounds that are part of your normal day make you feel. By this evening, how will the sound you have absorbed during the day affected you? What do you do to bring yourself back into balance?"
