" . . .no apologies, just shake your head and turn those guitars up. It''s when they hit the more dynamic parts of each song that you realize how good the song is." - The Big Takeover

"A huge evolutionary step forward from the legions of emo/punk/nu-rock pretenders hawking their wares across America, they''re rocking and arty in just the right amounts." - Splendidezine

"The Final Moments of Paola Mori exemplifies all of the amplifonic Lo-Fi love a listener of college rock could hope to embrace . . . growling, high-strung vocals; yes . . . great songs; yes! World''s best hidden track; oh yeah baby!" - Two Louies Magazine

"Honestly, it blew me away. Tight and friendly, The Final Moments of Paola Mori is poppy in all the right places." - Music Liberation Project

" . . . in a word, a very ambitious initial EP . . . the songs sound inspired." - https://www.tradebit.com

" . . . songs take careening turns and still wend their way back to the melody. The band has a constant energy that spans all of its experiments in rock song structure." - The Oregonian

"A paradoxically distant yet immersing and visceral production." - Music Liberation Project

"Through all stages, the band is impressively solid and confident." - Willamette Week

"They''re a rock band with clear creative ability, and the future looks bright." - The Portland Mercury

Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, The Very Foundation take driving, fuzzed-out rock, replete with churning guitars and propulsive rhythms, and match it with dense vocal harmonies, varying sound oddities, lo-fi sampling and angular art-rock orchestration.

Produced by garage-rock upstart producer Patrick Kearns (The Exploding Hearts, Goddamn Gentleman), The Final Moments of Paola Mori (Velvafonic Records), the debut EP from this Portland, OR quintet, churns with frothing urgency that has been receiving regular spins at Portland''s KPSU and KBOO, as well as at college stations throughout the country.

The abstract yet evocative lyrics detail veiled stories of mysterious characters, allowing the listener brief, vivid snapshots of a much larger story. In complement to this, the band pushes the limits of their instruments, running vocals through waves of guitar pedals, pumping random studio creations through samplers, using tribal drum beats and polyrhythms, and pulling strange and off-kilter sounds out of their respective electric guitars and keyboards.

As can be expected, The Very Foundation''s musical influences are numerous and diverse, however comparisons could be drawn to the Desoto sound championed by D.C. luminaries such as The Dismemberment Plan and Burning Airlines, art-rockers Blonde Redhead, Texas'' The Mars Volta or other Northwest rock bands such as The Standard and Pretty Girls Make Graves.
